home : fun : sailing : oct05- sam, christian, jason, will in the fog

Friends Sam B, Christian B, and Jason T from work joined me for a leisurely sail down to the bay, under the Golden Gate bridge, and back around Angel Island. It was a great day for some fun bay sailing. Perfect wind, just a little fog to keep things interesting.

The sail down was pretty easy, very enjoyable. We got some wind through Raccoon Straight and over towards the GG bridge. It was mostly between 15-18 knots, with a few gusts to 22. But I'm just guessing from the Beaufort scale - no windo-meter measuring thingy.

We ducked under the bridge, despite the fog and pleas for a safe passage by the whiny crew, and came back into the bay with a classic two-masted schooner. Very picturesque. The wind picked up and we did a couple of laps between the bridge and Angel Island.

We stayed as long as we could, but the sail back up the bay to San Rafael takes a while. We zipped back up and were treated to a great sunset as we arrived. Fantastic day.
